Annie's Trunk Show: Sea Dream

Annie's Trunk show: Sea Dream

The occasion: the wedding of a special sewing friend. Sydney had once been my student and employee and someone I had mentored. Twelve years ago, she helped me prepare for a wedding in Brazil. One of the projects was an ensemble. Neither of us ever imagined that the skirt from this two piece would become the basis for the dress I would one day wear to her wedding! Inspired by Rodarte Spring Collection 2015, I created an asymmetrical fishnet and silk dress. An unlikely combination of fabrics, I first underlined the fishnet bodice with remnants of iridescent cross-dyed silk chiffon over China silk. I then added another skirt layer of fishnet to the existing twelve year old skirt made of a chiffon layer and a china silk layer. The bolero is made from netting with intricate felted embroideries. The French sea glass necklace is vintage. The bride loved it and called it Sea Dream.
