Annie's Trunk show: Feet First

This project was inspired by some great shoes that I own. As you can see from the line drawing, this print skirt was designed as a dress: Butterick 5885, a cute Maggy London number with a shaped hemline. I had the dress under construction for a resort vacation when time ran out. Disappointed at the prospect of leaving it all behind, I transformed the dress into a skirt. So by overlapping my waistline seam allowance with a 2" wide elastic, the dress changed into a skirt. I wore it with a tank top and, of course, my great shoes. The fabric #5249 is a poly stretch tulle with orchid, red and turquoise leaf fronds on a white ground in a happy summertime print. It's lined with a very lightweight orchid silk and lycra matte jersey. Using YLI wooly nylon in the upper looper of my original Elna Pro5DC, I created lettuce-edged hems on both skirt and lining with the narrow hem feature. I may never go back to complete this as a dress but will consider adding a peplum to the bodice to make it a top to wear with a contrasting bottom.
