Annie's Trunk Show: Meet the Parents

Several years ago, my husband and I went to a wedding in Brazil. The wedding and the attendant parties consumed most of a week (and nearly consumed us!). One of the events of the wedding week was a fairly formal dinner party given by the bride's parents whom we had not met before and I wanted to wear something special. The problem with going to Brazil is going to Brazil: the trip took nearly 30 hours each way. During the outbound trek, I completed all the hand sewing on this project: in the car going to the airport, on the plane, and at various airports along our journey. The jacket pattern is by Butterick and the skirt pattern by Vogue. The jacket fabric is a metallisse made from various fibers and the piping is made from the reverse side. The skirt fabric is a cross-dyed silk chiffon. To create the lettuce hem required many hours of patient hand rolling.
